I don't know the exact number of participants in my camp. How should I fill out the application where it asks for the number of campers?
Simply estimate the anticipated number of campers. If you have held camps in previous years, you can use those numbers to estimate your premium. After your camp is completed, return the audit forms that are included with your medical information. You can fill out the exact number of participants and remit any additional premium at that time.
How do I multiply the number of days and number of participants to arrive at the proper premium for my camp(s)?
Using the following formula will enable you to arrive at the proper premium. First, multiply the number of participants by the daily rate of either $.65 for commuters or $.85 for overnight campers. After you have your daily rate, then multiply it by the number of days in your camp session.
Example: I have 80 resident campers for four days in one session and 100 commuters for five days in my second session. What is the premium?
- 80 x $.85 = $68.00/ day
$68.00/ day x 4 = $272.00 for session one
- 100 x $.65 = $65.00/ day
$65.00/ day x 5 = $325.00 for session two
Total premium for both sessions $597.00
Why do I have to purchase both Accident Medical and General Liability insurance for my league? What is the difference?
To give adequate protection for both participants and coaches and to obtain playing fields, both coverages are needed. Accident Medical insurance protects the players and coaches from an accidental injury that happens during sanctioned practice or play. This insurance is excess to any other valid and collectible insurance that may be in place for players or coaches.
The General Liability insurance protects you, your league officials, and volunteers for any bodily injury or property damage to a third party that your league would be legally obligated to pay as a result of your negligence. Evidence of General Liability insurance is usually required by a field owner before a league can use that property.
How quickly can coverage be bound for my league?
Coverage can bound the same day as we receive a completed application and premium check in our office. Evidence of insurance in the form of a Certificate of Insurance will be issued immediately upon receipt of premium and application.
Why does my league need Directors & Officers coverage? Doesn't my general liability policy protect my league and decisions that the officers may make?
Your general liability policy may not cover certain types of lawsuits that involve discrimination, wrongful termination of a coach, suspension of league personnel, or rulebook disputes. This D & O policy would protect you and your league against these types of wrongful acts where your general liability will primarily cover bodily injury and property damage to a third party. No organization is immune from being named in a lawsuit. Disciplinary action against an individual who doesn't believe league rules have been violated could result in a suit against the organization. This policy would cover the legal costs related to defending the league against such a suit.
What activities are covered under the "Blanket Mandatory" insurance program?
All activities, both sport and non-sport, are covered under a "Blanket Mandatory" plan. The activities must be school sanctioned and supervised by appointed school personnel. No rosters are needed under a Blanket Mandatory plan. Along with travel in school vehicles, practice and play are covered. When a school district purchases Blanket Mandatory coverage, K-12 field trip coverage is included at no extra charge. This field trip coverage is limited to day trips in school vehicles.
Under the Voluntary Student Accident Plan, are the premium rates paid each month?
No, the rates shown on the brochure are the YEARLY rates. However, there is no prorata refund of premium if the coverage is purchased during the school year. The individual student effective date of coverage for the Voluntary Student Accident is when the application, along with premium, is received in our office. If the application is given to the school district, the effective date is when the school receives the check and application.
All school activities, with the exception of senior high football, can be covered by "at school coverage." There is a separate premium charge for senior high football.
Does the Catastrophic Insurance Cover Non-Sport Activities?
At the discretion of the district, the Catastrophic Insurance can cover sport, non-sport, physical education classes, intramural, and all students of the district. There are separate premiums to cover each group.
What are the products you offer?
For college athletics programs, we offer both Basic Athletic and Catastrophic coverages. Basic Athletic coverage provides accident/injury insurance for all student athletes, managers, trainers, cheerleaders, and any other category of students you have elected to cover. Catastrophic, also known as Cat, provides extended coverage for students injured permanently or disabled while competing, traveling, or practicing.
What are the policy limits of these coverages?
NJCAA and NAIA schools have Basic Athletic maximums of $25,000. Catastrophic coverage for these schools has a $25,000 deductible and a maximum benefit of $10 million. With the Cat deductible set at the policy maximum for Basic Athletic, schools have first dollar coverage by purchasing these two plans to $10 million.
NCAA schools have Cat furnished by the NCAA with a deductible of $50,000. Basic coverage for these schools has a maximum benefit of $50,000. At this point, NCAA Cat coverage is initiated with a maximum benefit of $20 million.
